What is sound absorbing board?

 

Generally, among board materials, the term of sound absorbing board is described as a kind of material, whose sound absorbing performance is emphasized. There are variety of kinds of it.

 

Basically, as we wrote down and uploaded in this website last time, this board material conforms to sound absorbing property, so in often cases, 「it is porous(quality material of countless holes opened on the surface and inside)」.

 

In order to make occurred sound around difficult to leak, sound absorption and sound insulation are crucial.

Porous board

 

Porous board is, a board material whose holes are opened on plywood including veneer.

Sound absorbing gypsum board

Although its holes are not regularly opened as porous board, gypsum board itself has sound insulating property, it is highly valued for soundproof measure.

Rock wool sound absorbing board

 

Rock wool sound absorbing board is a board material mainly used for ceiling, whose material is rock wool, and holes are opened in unregular pattern on the surface.

 

Its incombustibility is also high, so it can be said a typical sound absorbing board material.

Glass wool board, GC board

 

Literally, glass wool board is, a board material processing glass wool as flat board.

Its heat insulating property and incombustibility are high, so it is also used for roof bedding and wall bedding.

 

A product called Para board which is manufactured by Paramount Glass Industry Co. Ltd., Japan, is a main product.

 

GC board is, a board material which is covered by abovementioned glass wool board with glass cloth (cloth weaved by glass fiber). Its type is enhanced in designability and durability.

 

 

 

MG board

 

MG board, is a board made by rock wool to which thermosetting resin is added, then processed as state of board, which resembles glass wool board・GC board.

 

Its feature almost resembles each other too. As for sound insulating property, it seems that MG board is better numerically (In the case of comparing with the same thickness).

 

Apart from this too, as it is not a board material, however, there exists a product called sound absorbing panel.

 

If you say that you would like to reduce sound leakage at meeting room or so, but cannot execute large-scale construction work, this product may be helpful and worth considering to try it, as it can be made only by sticking existing wall surface with magnet, double sided tape or so, then it can reduce sound echo.

 

 

 

 

Difference from sound insulating board

 

Sound insulating board is, a board material generally laminated with vibration controlling mat on plywood or gypsum board, whose product is strengthened from originally existing board material. It is often double sticked with regular gypsum board too.

 

Besides, there is a kind of sheet called sound insulating sheet to stick between bedding material and board material too. It can upgrade sound insulating property of board material.

 

Sound absorption is said to be , absorbing sound and transferring it to heat energy.

While, sound insulation is, a mechanism of insulating sound and in order not to emit sound from inside space to outside.

 

Essentially, as measurement to sound, the both mechanisms are different. Because the both are necessary, as for building, the both are basically executed construction well balanced and according to its requirement.

 

As basic requirement, to the place where sound isolation property and sound absorbing property are required, light gauge steel or wooden axis bedding material＋glass wool or so heat isolating・sound absorbing material＋gypsum board are supposed to be executed construction work. According to other requirement・case, abovementioned sound absorbing material and board material double sticking or so are carried out.
