・Gypsum board（Another name: plaster board）
As its name suggests, the raw material is gypsum. The base-sheet(=paper) is absorbed on the core. It’s main merit is fire resistance. If gypsum board meets fire or heat, gypsum may gradually be vaporized. Until gypsum is completely emitted, the board temperature does not change, which is the characteristics.
This is the reason of excel as fire resistance.
Furthermore, besides normal boards which presupposes cloth gluing after construction work, there is decorative gypsum board.
It is used for ceiling, and one of the famous brand name is Gyptone(manufactured by Yoshino gypsum Co. Ltd., Japan).
As it is rather hard, it is used for gluing light gauge steel(=LGS).
(Glass wool may be spread all over between LGS and gypsum board, for countermeasure of sound isolation and sound absorption. )

・Rock wool sound absorbing board
It is made from a raw material called「rock wool」with countless holes on its surface, which excels sound absorbing property. However, as it is fragile and easy to crack, it is different from gypsum board, and it cannot be glued as it is.
It is constructed by gluing bedding board on LGS, also gluing rock wool sound absorbing board with adhesive and stapler(a kind of peg), which is so-called 「inconspicuous basic gluing」.
(Very rarely, there is a kind of sound absorbing board which is directly glued LGS.)
There is Solaton, one of a famous brand product(manufactured by Yoshino gypsum Co. Ltd., Japan).

As our conclusion, workability, hardness and other features are different between gypsum board and rock wool absorbing board.
